Marion Stephenson is a professional artist who works primarily in pastels and oils, and occasionally, on commissioned murals. Born and raised in a small Indiana town, Marion has been painting since childhood. She began her professional education at the Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduating, she went to New York and began working as a graphic designer while studying classical art at the Art Student's League with some of the best artists in the country. The past several years, Marion has been taking painting trips to France and Italy where she has drawn much inspiration for her current paintings.
Whether working in oils or pastels, Marion explores contrast between light and dark values; cool and warm colors. Her style, ringing of impressionism, consists of clean colors and strong strokes. The motive behind her vivid, bold style she describes as the effort to "give the viewer a moment in time, a feeling that will connect the individual to the painting."
Marion's work has been shown in numerous galleries, juried exhibitions, and solo shows. She has completed many public and private commissions ranging from landscape paintings to murals. Included in her body of her work, there are two large, outdoor murals: one for the city of York, PA, the other for the National Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia, PA. She is currently exhibiting work at numerous art festivals throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, as well as showing in various galleries throughout the US.
